The Ormo

SECC, Glasgow March 15th 2004

Yesterday was Monday 15th March 2004. It was the day I had been counting down to for months. It was the Pop Idol concert at the SECC in Glasgow with our one and only, Brian Ormond.

The concert started at 7.30pm. Brian came on second after Marc Dillon. The beautiful Pop Idol judge Nicki Chapman started to introduce him "our next performer is from the Emerald Isle and I do believe, thats when my lungs were put into use! He bounded onto stage in a red jacket with Cuba written on the back and dark blue jeans.

From the second row, we waved our large flags and thank goodness we did, he noticed us! He waved at us about 15 times through out the night and I nearly fainted, every time. When he was singing the Westlife hit, "When You're Looking Like That" and he reached the line, "How am I supposed to leave you now, when you're looking like that", he pointed at me! I swear to God, I thought I was gonna pass out! He did exactly the same thing during the Aerosmith song, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" on the line "I don't wanna close my eyes, cause I'll miss you babe (thats when he pointed!) and I don't wanna miss a thing!" Right at the end, in the finale song, he blew us three kisses! He was grinning at my reaction! He also appeared to be laughing on stage at one point because it fell quiet while Nicki and Brian were chatting and I screamed "We love Brian" and they looked like they heard me. Nicki also pointed out that there were a few Irish flags in the house for him and they both looked at us. Today, the day after as I am writing this, my throat is still recovering!

The only other hit that Brian sung on his own was "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams. Thats not to say those were the only times he was on stage. There were a lot of group performances too and a lot of costume changes too. He looked stunning! They all did, but as usual Brian stood out most of all!

Three hours later and the concert was over. It was time to head backstage.

My best friend Fiona, a fellow Brian fan was with me. We sat down at a table, in the back corner. I had my Irish flag draped over my shoulders and a little Irish flag on the table. All of a sudden, the ten finalists appeared and the room erupted in cheers. There were only about twenty other people there (not including Michelle and Marcs families). Guess where Brian headed? Straight over to our table!

I was on the phone to his little sister, Ciara at this point. He came over (while I was still on the phone!) and gave me a kiss on the cheek and a hug. Yup, Brian gave me a kiss! I told him that I had his sister on the phone and he replied in his gorgeous Irish accent, "You must be Kirsty?" I then passed the phone to him where he spoke to Ciara for a minute or two. After I had finished talking to her, Brian sat down at our table. He smelled gorgeous! I could smell him right up until I got to my bed! He signed his autograph for me, Fiona and some of my friends who had asked me to get if for them. Mines reads, "To Kirsty, thanks for ALL the support. It was great to meet you. Lots of love, Brian." I then got two pictures taken with him and I gave him the presents we had got him (the Irish Winnie the Pooh and the fan book) and the present I had got for Ciara. We talked about how great I thought he was how I enjoyed the concert, the website, Ciara, school and what he was going to be doing next (which you can read about in the news section of my site). After about 5-10 minutes, people were coming over to get his autograph so we said bye and went round to speak to the other finalists.

During this point, Mark Rhodes asked me what I thought about Brian becoming the new member of Westlife, I replied, "No, no, no! He is better than all four of them put together!" Mark agreed! Nicki Chapman told me that I had made his night and he was so happy and I think it was either Kim or Andy that said the same thing! Kim signed my bit of paper with "The flag suits you!"

When I was waiting to speak to Susanne, Brian went up to Andy and asked him if he had met me yet! Right at the end, Brian was one of the first to leave. He came up to Fiona and I and gave us another kiss and a hug goodbye and thanked us

He may have thanked us, but I want to return the favour. Brian Ormond, you are amazing. You gave me the best night of my life, at the concert and after the concert. Thank you so much. I am so happy and it's all because of you. I want to thank Ciara Ormond as well for getting me the backstage passes. That was the best surprise anyone could have sprung on me. So thank you to both of you. I don't think either of you will ever know how much it means to me.
